Privacy Policy

This policy explains what Skimcraft collects, what we process from public sources, and what we generate. We aim to collect as little personal data as possible.

What we collect from you

• Account information — email, optional display name, and a hashed password.
• Preferences — your focus text, digest settings, and plan.
• Your library — the channels you subscribe to and videos you save.
• Usage & diagnostics — basic analytics and logs to keep the service working (see Analytics & cookies below).
• Billing — handled by our payment processor; we store only a customer/subscription reference, never card numbers.

What we process from public sources

• Public YouTube metadata (titles, channels, durations, publish dates, thumbnails).
• Publicly available captions retrieved from supported platforms.

What we generate

• AI study guides, learning notes, knowledge topics (tags), and playbooks.

Caption & transcript storage

To improve analysis quality and to regenerate study guides as AI models evolve, Skimcraft may retain copies of publicly available captions retrieved from supported platforms. These captions are used solely for internal processing and are not made available for download or public browsing.

Analytics & cookies

We use Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google LLC, to understand how visitors use Skimcraft so we can improve it. Google Analytics uses cookies and similar technologies to collect information such as pages visited, approximate location (derived from a truncated/anonymized IP address), device and browser type, and referring pages. This data is aggregated and used for statistical analysis; we do not use it to identify you individually. Google may process this information on our behalf and in accordance with its own privacy policy.

You can opt out of Google Analytics by installing Google's browser opt-out add-on or by blocking analytics cookies in your browser settings. In addition to analytics cookies, we use a strictly necessary session cookie to keep you signed in.

How we use data

To operate and improve the service, generate your guides and digests, enforce plan limits, secure accounts, and communicate with you (transactional email such as invites, password resets, and, if you opt in, digests). We do not sell your personal data.

Sharing

We share data only with processors that run the service (hosting, email delivery, our AI providers for analysis, Google Analytics for usage measurement, and our payment processor for billing), under agreements that limit their use of it.

Retention & your rights

We keep account data while your account is active. You can request access to or deletion of your personal data by emailing privacy@skimcraft.com. Deleting your account removes your personal library and settings; shared, publicly-derived content in the pool may be retained in de-identified form.
